Origins and History of the Carnival (Entrudo)

The Carnival is a period of parties conducted by the lunar year that finds its origins in the Antiquity and that later it is absorbed by Christianity; it started in the day of Kings (Epiphany) and finished in the Wednesday of Ashes, to the eves of the Quaresma.

Some theories exist on the origin of the word; currently the more accepted is the one that binds to the word Carnival to the expres sion meat levare, that is, “good bye to the meat” or “carne nada vale” (in Portuguese), a kind of last profane moments of joy and partying before the sad period and of abstinence of the Quaresma.

During the Average(or Middle) Age a series of tricks was used to commemorate the carnavalesc period in Portugal, changing from village fo r village. In some it was noticed the presence of great dolls, called generically of Entrudos. It will come from there the denomination equally used in Portugal of Entrudo and the joking spirit that lives during the days of the Party…

Quest4Goa invites you to celebrate the monday night of Carnival in Trance environment, having as meeting point the Porto-Rio boat, at Opo rto city.

The decoration will be a reflex of varied subjects of this period and the musical selection for this journey will contain some of the mos t appreciated sources of the actual Trance spectrum.
