Visionary Arts, hand painted and digitally edited afterwards to create a very impressing 3D effect with special glasses
Who are you?
I am Sandeep Chandran, an artist residing in the United States for the past 19 years, but born and raised for the first 10 years in India. Due to this mixture of lifestyles and cultural exposures, I think of myself not as belonging to any background, rather as an explorer of the various cultures and experiences of the world. I am very close to my Hindu heritage though. I think it is that trait which lay behind my mystical streak, and interest in consciousness and esoteric stuff, which eventually led me to psychedelics and entheogens. Since that discovery, my life has been a journey to bring out through art the visions which I have seen in those inner journeys.
What inspires you in your work, which motives do you like most and why?
So as I said my primary source of inspiration are entheogens, specifically Psilocybin mushrooms and DMT, mainly in the oral form of Ayahuasca. Ever since my first mushroom experience, I have struggled to render the visions I saw in the closed eye space, which to me was a vast magical dimension filled with the most superb art the human (inner and outer) eye could fall upon. In higher doses of mushrooms and Ayahuasca, I encounter beings that emerge out of the aesthetic patterns, and these beings have always been female, and thus the stress on female forms in my art. These beings shift into various forms, showing me the different aspects of the feminine nature. Another thing that really motivated me to draw the series of female forms was the overt correlation between the feminine entities and the female figures present in Hindu art (like the statues of Khajuraho).
Tell some words about the special 3D effect of your paintings, please!
I hand drew all my work, and colored them digitally. When I colored them, I did it wearing the Chromadepth 3D glasses, which is a very interesting product that makes darker colors recede and brighter colors project out in appearance. I was thus able to design the works so that when seen through these glasses, they appear surrealistically 3D. If you purchase the posters of my art through my website, I also send a pair of the 3D glasses with them to maximize their effect.
