An interview with David Green, co-creator of Universal Mind Productions
a leading Trance producer in Dallas. They are dedicated to throwing great
Trance parties, selling the latest music (www.umprod.com),
and most of all keeping Dallas connected to the international electronic
music scene. UMP also has a radio station on their web site, and a team
of 7 very diverse trance djs. When I learned of UMP I was pretty amazed.
Trance in Dallas ? Well, it's true.
Cici : How was UMP started ?
DAVID(UMP) : One evening I stumbled upon the Goa sound when a
friend played some music for me after returning from Burning Man, from
then on there was no looking back for me. After I returned from a trip
to Amsterdam about three years ago, I was inspired to create an event
so that people in Dallas could experience the power energy and joy that
a good psy trance party could provide.
Cici : What is your mission ?
DAVID(UMP) : Our mission is to bring world class talent to Dallas and
create some
magic and hopefully make an impact on some people in a positive and
uplifting manner.
Cici : How do you view the Trance scene in Dallas ?
DAVID(UMP) : The Trance scene in Dallas is coming along slowly but also
very nicely and has been progressing quite well over the last few years.
A recent party we did with Mark Allen and Quirk proved to me that things
are progressing very well, there was an amazing vibe and energy all
night and everything came together perfectly.
Cici : and in the US ?
DAVID(UMP) : Parts of the US seem to be coming along nicely, with NY
and SF acting as pillars. I think the US really needs a couple of good
labels with the right backing focused on psy trance and other styles
of trance to cut down on importation and distribution costs.
Cici : Is there a market for Trance music in the Dallas area ?
DAVID(UMP) : Yes, most definitely. Progress at times does appear slow,
but when we
do big events, everyone really goes nuts and contributes to creating
a
special night. We distribute CD and vinyl releases world wide and do
pump quite a bit of Trance and other genres through Texas.
Cici : How does UMP produce parties ?
DAVID(UMP) : Throughout the year, as our budget and time permits we
throw small to medium sized low admission parties and reallly focus
on at least one big event a year, which we strive to make very special.
Cici : Any important trance events in Texas in the near future ?
DAVID(UMP) : Having just had Mark Allen/Quirk here, I have to ponder
the exact specifics, but there will definitely be future events here
in Dallas. There is currently also two other crews in Texas, both of
which reside in Austin, respectively named The Texaliens and Last Laugh
LLC.
Cici : Anything else you can say about your experience as a producer
?
DAVID(UMP) : Big thanks and much love to all the dancers, trancers and
prancers that have gotten down on the dance floor at our events - what
we do, we do for you. Support your local scene, that is where real change
can occur....
