Van : Comment, quand et pourquoi as tu commence a t'interesser
a la scene trance en tant que DJ/musicien ?

Serge : J'ai commence a jouer DJ en 89-90 puis a composer de la
musique a Londres en 91-92 sous le nom de Total Eclipse
jusqu'en 2000. Nous avons sortis 3 albums sur le label
anglais Blue Room. Depuis je continue a me produire sous
The Antidote. J'ai sorti mon 1er album, Antidotcom,
en mai 2001 sur le label japonais Solstice Music.
Mon 2eme album, Close Encounters, sort ce mois-ci
toujours sur Solstice Music.

Van : Quelles sont tes influences musicales ?

Serge : J'ecoute tout style de musique quand j'en ai le temps.
Depuis que j'habite a ibiza la house est ma principale
influence, on ne peut pas vraiment y echapper en pleine
saison.

Van : Comment definirais tu en quelques mots ton style musical ?

Serge : Je fais particulierement attention a la production des
morceaux, une sorte de deformation professionnelle.
On pourrais definir le style de Close Encounters comme
un mix principalement de trance psychedelic avec
une touche de progressive house ou tek house.

Van : De quel materiels et logiciels te sers tu pour travailler ?

Serge : Je me sers de Cubase comme sequenceur sur un Mac G4
667mhz, un Nord Lead2, un Virus C, Juno 106, SH101,
Waldorf Microwave... voila pour les synthes,
un TC Electronic M2000 et firework, un reverbe srv330
pour les effets.

Van : Sur quoi mixes tu ?

Serge : Je mixe le tout sur une Mackie32-8bus

Van : D'ou viens ton inspiration lorsque tu crees ?

Serge : Principalement apres les parties, si elles se sont bien
passees, tu retournes dans le studio avec plus de
gnac, avec plus d'envie. Apres la facon dont le track
evolu est tres aleatoire et la plupart du temps tu n'as
pas vraiment idee de comment il va finir. Tu as
aussi l'environnement qui joue pas mal, si c'est
calme ou stressant le resultat sera different.

Van : En quoi consistent tes activites chez GBU (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly) ?

Serge : Dans GBU tout le monde fait un peu tout, mais chacun a sa
specialite, Dado le mix, Dimitri la construction et
moi les sequences. Enfin plus ou moins.

Van : As tu encore quelque chose a voir avec Total Eclipse ?
Serge : J'ai quitte Total Eclipse il y a bientot 3 ans, nous nous
croisons sur quelques festivals mais on en reste la,
c'etait une belle aventure.

Van : Quels sont tes projets pour le futur ?

Serge : Apres la promo de "Close Encounters" nous allons finir
l'album de GBU et je vais preparer le prochain Antidote.

Van : Prochaines scenes ?

Serge : Je reponds a ton interview depuis Tokyo ou je fais une
mini tournee pour la sortie de l'album. Nous avons joue
avec Frank Koxbox samedi dernier a Nagoya, nous partons
vendredi a Sapporo puis samedi a Tokyo.
Je pars ensuite en Afrique du Sud pour le
Solar Eclipse Festival.

Van : Meilleur gig/mix ? celui que tu preferes oublier !

Serge : Meilleur gig Tokyo Geopolis l'annee derniere, l'autre,
New York Halloween Party il y a 3 semaines

Van : Quels sont tes morceaux et groupes favoris du moment ?

Serge : Orion, Spacecat

Van : Que penses tu de la scene francaise en ce moment ?
Un commentaire sur la trance en France ?

Serge : Je suis assez mal place pour en parler. Depuis bientot 3
ans que j'ai quitte la France, je n'y suis retourne pour
jouer que 3 fois. Depuis le debut les artistes trance
francais ont souvent plus de succes a l'etranger,
va savoir pourquoi. Quoiqu'il en soit la production
trance en france est au top niveau de ce qu'il se fait en
ce moment.

Van : A part la musique, quels sont tes autres centres
d'interets dans la vie ?

Serge : Je ne dirais jamais non a une bonne bouffe avec du bon
vin et une bonne bande de potes. Malgres un emploie du
temps charge j'aime bien en faire le moins possible
et profiter de la vie.

Van : Un reve, un coup de coeur et un coup de gueule ?

Serge : Peace on earth..

Van : How, when and why you started to interest you in the
scene trance as DJ/musicien?

Serge : I started to play DJ into 89-90 then to compose music to
London in 91-92 under the name of Total Eclipses until
2000. We released 3 albums on the English label Blue Room.
Since I continue to produce me under The Antidote. I
released my 1st album, Antidotcom, in May 2001 on the
Japanese label Solstice Music. My 2nd album,
Closed Encounters, is releasing this month always on
Solstice Music.

Van : Which are your musical influences ?

Serge : I listen to any style of music when I have time to do it.
Since I'm living to Ibiza house music is my principal
influence, we cannot really escape it during the high season.

Van : How could you in a few words define your musical style?

Serge : I particularly pay attention to the production of the
tracks, a kind of professional deformation. One could
define the style of Close Encounters as one mix mainly of
trance psychedelic with a touch of progressive house
or tek house.

Van : Which are the hardware and software which you use to work?

Serge : I use Cubase as sequencer on Mac G4 667mhz, a Nord Lead2,
a Virus C, Juno 106, SH101, Waldorf Microwave

Van : On what are you mixing ?

Serge : I mix everything on a Mackie32-8 bus

Van : From where does your inspiration come when you are creating ?

Serge : Mainly after the parties, if it occurred well, you come
back to the studio with more power, with more creativity.
After, the way in which the track evolve is very random
and most of the time you do not have really idea from how
it will finish. You have also the environment which could
be really important.. if it is calm or stressing the
result is different.

Van : What are you doing for GBU (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly) ?
Which is there your role and that of the others?

Serge : In GBU everyone done a little all, but each one has its
speciality, Dado the mix, Dimitri construction and me
the sequences/ I mean more or less, it has to be like that !

Van : Have you still something to do with Total Eclipse ?

Serge : I left Total Eclipses almost 3 years ago, we cross on
some festivals but one remains about it, it was a
beautiful adventure.

Van : What are your projects for the future ?

Serge : After the promo of Close Encounters, we will finish
the album of GBU and I will prepare the next Antidote.

Van : Next gigs ?

Serge : I answer to your interview from Tokyo where I make a mini
round for the release of the album. We played with Frank
Koxbox last Saturday in Nagoya, we leave Friday to
Sapporo then Saturday to Tokyo. I leave then to
South Africa for Solar Eclipse Festival.

Van : Which was your best gig ? Which is that of which
you prefer all to forget?

Serge : Best one was to Tokyo Geopolis last year, the other one,
New York for Halloween Party 3 weeks ago.

Van : Which are your favorite tracks and groups of the moment?

Serge : Orion and Spacecat

Van : What do you think about the French scene of these time ?
A comment on the trance in France?

Serge : I am very badly placed to speak about it. For almost 3
years that I left France, I have been gone back there to
play only 3 times. Since the beginning the French trance
artists have often more success abroad, we don't know
why. Though it is, the France trance production is at the
top of what it is done in this moment.

Van : Except the music, which are your centers of interests in life?

Serge : I would never say not to good food with good wine and a
good group of pals. In spite of a timetable charged I
like to make the least possible and to enjoy from the life.

Van : One dream, something you really want to realize or
something you really want to say ?

Serge : Peace on earth..
